There are lots of other search options besides Google including crucially Wolfram Alpha, (Wolfram Alpha has an education portal and also offer a range of apps and widgets and offers a pro service.
Storing your bookmarks or favorites on your computer is far from efficient. Social Bookmarking site such as Diigo or delicious offer many advantages. To see either in action go to mrpbps' Diigo Bookmarks and/or mrpbp's delicious Bookmarks (make sure you do a search on the tag 'science').

Science Kids is a great New Zealand site chock full with investigations and interactives as is the Science Learning Hub. The National Science Digital Library is an American portal and 100+ STEM sites is a livebinders full of science links organised under tabs.
